The cause of juvenile diabetes, most commonly known as type 1 diabetes, is a genetic disease. Very often it is thought to occur due to obesity or eating a lot of sugary products. Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. That means the body’s defense system attacks some of the body’s own cells. In type 1 diabetes, the cells in the pancreas that make insulin are destroyed, and therefore they are no longer capable of making insulin.
The cause of it is unknown. What is known is that some people are born with a tendency to develop diabetes. The disease is triggered of either by a virus or an element in the environment.This type of diabetes affects approximately 1.4 million people in the United States.
