An active diabetic leads a healthier life. Participating in sports, enthusiasm and will power to keep fit can take a diabetic a long way on the path of physical fitness.
Diabetes is often due to lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyles. Hereditary also plays an important role in its onset, as well as stress and modern lifestyles. In diabetes, the body, resulting in fatigue and tiredness, does not produce the hormone insulin, which helps in converting sugar and other foods into energy. One tends to become lethargic, resulting in lack of activity in general. Obviously, one needs to become more active in order to improve one’s general health. A diabetic needs to be active to retain his vitality. He or she has to make an extra effort. How?
Tips for Diabetic to Be Active
- One must change one’s lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle is not advisable, and neither a fast paced modern life. Both can aggravate the condition. One must have time for leisure
- Take part in sports. All one needs to be concerned about is to keep a check on one’s glucose levels. One can take snacks in between breaks during the game. One can enjoy the sport to the maximum. One need not feel restricted by the disease. One should consult the physician as to what precautions one should take while playing the game. Sports improve alertness and one makes one feel healthy and confident. General well-being is promoted
- Walking also helps. One can go for regular walks every morning. Wherever it is feasible one must take that extra step. Physical movement is good
- One can exercise also. Only one needs to keep a tab on one’s glucose levels, but that is not so difficult. Just consult your physician and decide upon an exercise regime that suits you. Do not overdo things if you are not accustomed to exercise. Begin slowly, and then increase the tempo. Exercise keeps you body in good shape. It helps in the control of other ailments, which could be due to diabetes. Exercise also helps in the control of diabetes
- Make changes in your daily routine. Have time for yourself. You should concentrate on ensuring that there are no further health complications due to diabetes. The daily routine should be stress free and one should be involved in activities throughout the day. Find something interesting to do. Have a hobby that interests you. It keeps your mind active.
- One can join an exercise group to exercise with others, which would be fun and interesting
- Joining a club would also be good. Make more friends. Enjoy their company. Diabetes should not restrict you from socializing- the wider the reach, the more interesting life would be. One should breakaway from the daily monotony of daily chores
- Take part in activities that other family members are also interested. This would bring you closer to them and they would also be able to understand your health problem. Family support is always essential in any health condition.
Being a diabetic is not a handicap. Life can be enjoyed like a normal person. One need not feel restricted in any way. By being active, one improves one’s self-esteem and confidence levels and overall health, which for a diabetic are very important.
