There are lots of misconceptions associated between diabetes and sugar intake. “Are fruits are safe for diabetes?” is one among the big misconceptions as all fruits contain sugar. Actually diabetics can indeed take fruits and in fact they are suggested to choose fruits over other foods containing high levels of sugars and other carbohydrates.

Fruits contain vitamins, minerals, fiber, enzymes and vital nutrients that people with diabetics need to maintain their normal life.

It is a challenge for diabetics to get the required fiber from other foods. Though some foods are rich in fiber, they do contain high levels of sugar, starch and glycemic ingredients that badly affect blood sugar. On the other side fruits such as apple provide fiber and it does not contain high levels of sugar and starch.

It is important to note that some fruits contain high levels of sugar that can easily affect your glucose levels if taken in large amounts in a day. So the best thing to do is consulting you doctor and taking advice on fruits in diabetic diet.
