A new study says that cognitive impairment at the age of 11 is linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes in later life.

Writing in the medical journal ‘Diabetes Care’ Dr. Gunilla M. Olsson, Uppsala University, Sweden and colleagues reported that: “Type 2 diabetes is associated with decreased cognitive function in adults, particularly among elderly people.”

Observing the results of the study the researchers report that poorly controlled blood glucose levels in childhood affect cognitive development and give raise the risk of type 2 diabetes. Even early development of cognitive impairment can influence lifestyle choices which increase the risk of diabetes.
