Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your body doesn’t make enough of a hormone called insulin, or if your body doesn’t use insulin the right way. If left untreated, it may result in blindness, heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and amputations.
Due to lack of diabetes early symptoms, some people are shocked when they find out they have the condition. Here are some common symptoms of diabetes that you may like to take note of and consult your doc in advance:
Common symptoms
Obesity: Being overweight and having excess fat along the abdominal area is the most common sign of type 2 diabetes
Urination, Thirst: Frequent urination and excessive thirst, which are common symptoms of diabetes can be the result when there is so much glucose in the blood. Since the kidneys are unable to absorb all the excess glucose, it’s excreted in the urine with the fluids drawn from the tissue. This leads to frequent urination and dehydration.
Dental problems: Although not shown as the diabetes early symptoms, the ability of the mouth to fight germs also gets weak. Infections appear and so does gum disease with the gums pulling away from teeth thus making the teeth loose. There may be sores or pus in the gums too.
Slow healing of wounds: Cuts, bruises or wounds on the skin may heal quite slowly.
Although these are likely to be the first symptoms of diabetes that you may be aware of, there is in fact no sign which can be labelled ‘early’, since diabetes once set in, is not that mild. So, please have regular health check-ups done.
