Type 1 diabetes people have no or very less insulin production in their body. They take insulin injection on a daily basis so that the level of glucose in their body remains in check. This article is about the technique to take the insulin injection.
What we need to take insulin injection?
- A bottle of insulin,
- A syringe,
- and An alcohol wipe
.
The steps to follow are:
- We open the insulin bottle and note down the date of opening the body.Insulin bottles more than 30 days are discarded.
- The bottle of insulin is rolled gently back and forth.
- A new syringe is taken and its needle cap is removed.
- The syringe’s needle is inserted into the rubber stopper of the insulin bottle and the plunger is pushed to inject the air into the bottle.
- Turn the bottle upside down. Make sure that the needle inside the bottle is below the insulin surface.
- Pull the plunger back so that insulin enters the syringe. The insulin in the syringe should be slightly more than the number of units needed.
- If there is any air bubble, repeat the process of injected insulin into the syringe without any air bubble.
- Take the needle out of the syringe.
- The site of injection should be rotated in circular motion with an alcohol wipe.
- The shin should dry before we inject the needle in the site of injection. Meanwhile we can relax the muscles.
- We take the skin between our forefinger and thumb. We take the syringe with the other hand and hold the needle at 90 degree angle to the site.
- The needle is gently pushed into the skin till the hub of the needle.
- The plunger is pushed completely so that all of the insulin gets injected into the fatty tissue.
- The needle is taken out after a few seconds, drawn out at the same 90 degree angle to the site.
- The alcohol wipe is to be pressed at the site of injection to stop bleeding of blood.
- It is important to remember that we cannot use the same syringe twice and should be carefully disposed at an appropriate place.
