American Diabetic Diet

In the US, about 1 million new patients are diagnosed with diabetes each year which cause over 200,000 deaths.

If you are diagnosed with diabetes then you need to follow a strict American Diabetic Diet. Once upon a time Diabetes was considered as the ‘Rich Man’s Disease’. But today it can affect anybody. Most diabetic diets follow daily intake of less than 2,000 kcal diet. But no meal should be skipped. Insulin is highly dependent on food consumption. Your diet should limiting fat, cholesterol, but should include fiber, fresh fruits (moderate), limited protein and salt. Try set a goal of 5 servings of fruit and vegetables and 6 servings of whole grain foods everyday. And 2 servings of fatty fish a week. Avoid eating between meals.

The American diabetic association recommends the below daily diet plan for diabetic people:

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables:

Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat leafy and non-leafy vegetables like spinach, carrots or broccoli.

Whole Grains:

You should eat cereals, bread and pasta but in reduced amounts.

Dairy Products:

Milk, cheese, yoghurt and ice cream can be taken. Non-fat cheese, non-fat yoghurt and skimmed milk are also good.

Meat, Fish, Egg or Chicken:

Eat 2 portions of each every day.

American Diabetic Diet Plan for those who require 1200-1600 kilo calorie:

  • 3 portions of fruits and vegetables
  • 2 portions of milk, yoghurt and meat
  • 3 portions of fats
  • 6 portions of starchy food

American Diabetic Diet Plan people who require 1600-2000 kilo calorie:

  • 3 portions of fruits
  • 4 portions of vegetables
  • 2 portions of milk, yoghurt and meat
  • 4 portions of fats
  • 8 portions of starchy food

American Diet Plan people who require 2000-2400 kilo calorie:

  • 3 portions of fruits
  • 4 portions of vegetables
  • 2 portions each of milk, yoghurt and meat
  • 5 portions of fats
  • 11 portions of starchy food

The American diabetic association diet also allows eating sweets in limited amounts. In order to avoid extra calories from sugar, low-calorie or artificial sweeteners are ideal.
