Sounds interesting right! Help for all diabetic patients. It is soon to be a reality. Massachusetts-based Draper Laboratories is going to develop a special nanoparticle ink which will indicate the glucose level in your body.
About The Tatoo
Nanotechnology is used to develop a phenomenal tattoo ink. This ink can be used to draw tattoo on your skin which will be similar to normal tattoo ink but with a difference as it can detect the sugar level in your body and will change its color accordingly. The tattoo depth also can be similar to normal tattoo available in the market. And the tattoo need not be quite big, a few centimeters would be considered enough for the purpose. This will keep you updated about your sugar level which in turn will help you to take care of it.
What Are The Components Of The Tattoo Ink?
The special ink is actually made up of nano particles, which can detect glucose. The nano particles are very tiny about 120 nanometers across. Each molecule has three parts in it
1st part contain the sugar detecting particle
2nd part contain the color changing dye
3rd part contain a special particle that mimic sugar.
The molecules are squishy spheres in shape and continuously move inside the body part.
How Does The Tattoo Indicate Sugar Levels?
The tiny molecules move inside the body. These molecules are hydrophobic orbit. The sugar detecting particle on the surface either attach to the glucose molecule or to the mimic molecule. If sugar level is high it gets lots of glucose molecules to attach or else it gets the sugar mimic molecule to attach to it. With sugar molecule the dye color changes to yellow. A yellowish hue show high sugar level. The mimic molecule, however, make the dye color change to purple. Hence, purple indicate a less sugar level in the blood. A healthy sugar level is indicated by “funny orangey” color. The molecules refresh the color every few milliseconds making you aware of your diabetes state all the time.

I cannot wait for this to be available to the general public! I’ve been a brittle diabetic for 25 years and am under great control, but man, this would make it so easy! Can’t wait!!!
