The intake of fruits and vegatables for diabetic patients is important. It is because the antioxidants present in fruits and vegetables reduce the effect of oxidative stress in diabetic patients. This article tries to understand what research made on this topic has to say.

Researchers at the Dept. of Epidemiology and Public health, University College of London, London, U.K. conducted a study on the daily intake of fruits and vegetables and type 2 diabetes. The study involved 1,67,128 participants with 4,858 cases of diabetes. The study continued for 13 years.

Conclusion: The study concluded that the intake of antioxidants like fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 13%.
In a more specific study done on this subject, the effect of 5 times servings of fruits and vegetables in a day on type 2 diabetes was learnt. The study was conducted at the Division of Nutrition and Physical activity, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia. It involved 9,665 participants of which 1,018 were diabetic.

Conclusion: These statistics suggested that high intake of fruits and vegetables lower the risks of type 2 Diabetes.
