Citrus Fruits are rich source of Vitamin C. Lemon, Orange, Grapes and Leech are examples of Citrus fruits. Latest research (dated Oct 2009), done on the rinds of these fruits suggest that they can be effective in fighting diabetes. This article tries to gain further insight.

The Research was conducted at the Institute of Biotechnology, Hungkuang University, Taiwan. It involved studying the rinds of the local finger citron fruits. It was supposed that the components present in these rinds were effectiveness in fighting diabetes.

Knowledge Gained from Research:
- The major component found in the rind of the citrus fruits was the d – Limonene.
- This component was given to experimental rats.
- Insulin secretion in the diabetic patients increased as a result.
- Tests conducted on finding the glucose levels reported low levels of blood sugar in the rats.
- The outcome of this research study imply that it is beneficial to eat the raw citrus fruits along with the rinds if possible.
- Preferring the inatke of the citrus fruit in the form of juice is to be avoided.
