FDA Diabetes Drug Review Speculations

The competition among various drug manufacturing companies for the growing diabetes drug market is nearing end. Several brands and various drugs available in the market which cure diabetes are being reviewed by FDA.(FOOD  and Drug Administration ) for its review of the major drugs in the coming months which could bring out the appropriate treatments for the dreaded disease.

Speculated Results

The revolutionary medicine, “saxagliptin”, meets new guidelines. The results are out on the   official FDA website. It has come with a new hope for the diabetes patients across the globe. “Liraglutide” medicine is also being reviewed and FDA has found low cardiovascular risk in this medicine but raise concerns on it as a small number of patients have developed thyroid cancer after using it. But the fate of “Exenatide LAR” doesn’t seem to be good as the drug is found to create critical medical conditions in the pancreas ranging from gallstone to leukemia in some patients.

What is FDA Doing?

FDA advisory panel is going to review various drugs and recommend its approval to the market along with a hint of the performance of the drug at the market.

Drugs To Be Reviewed

On april 1, “Saxagliptin” by “Bristol-Myers Squibb Company”. & “AstraZeneca”.
On april 2 “Liraglutide” by “Novo Nordisk” is the probable candidate for the review.
Likewise, “Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc” along with partners “Eli Lilly & Co.” & “Alkermes Inc.”are still planning for an approval for the extended release version of the drug “Byetta”, aka “Exenatide LAR”.
