6 Wonderful Fruits for Diabetics

Choosing what to eat is of utmost importance when it comes to diabetics. Eating the wrong foods can cause undesirable fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Choosing fruits for diabetics has always been a difficult prospect, considering that almost all fruits are sweet, and are bound to increase the blood sugar levels. But, when you understand the properties of the fruits in comparison with what a diabetic needs, it becomes a much simple task. Fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, along with low glycemic index are the criteria that must be considered while choosing fruits for diabetics. Here are some of such fruits.

  • Berries

    Almost all fruits related to the berry family are good for diabetes. Cranberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, acai berries, and goji berries. They are packed with rich antioxidants and vitamins which are quite good for your body.

Remember that it’s best to eat fruits fresh and as they are instead of their juices and dried or preserved versions. It will also be good if you can consume the seasonal fruits, apart from the fruits for diabetics mentioned above, while keeping in mind not to skip your medication and treatment (exercise and diet). However, keep your consumption of fruits with high glycemic index (mango, banana, pear, guava, watermelon, dates, and grapes) low.
