Nuts are one of the healthy snacks for diabetics. Almonds are best among nuts, however, take only a few handful of them as they increase the calorie count. Other good options include pecans, walnuts, cashews and peanuts.
Especially the whole grain crackers loaded with complex carbohydrates are other best options. They take more time to get digested and keep you feel full. You can get them in many flavors.
Choosing fruits can be really difficult for diabetics as they contain sugars which may not be good and can add up to blood glucose levels. However, some fruits can be consumed like apple (along with skin), blueberries, apricots and grapefruit. Just make sure to eat these in moderate amounts. And a big no to dry fruits for diabetics.
Though red meat is not at all a good option for diabetics, white meat can be opted. You can happily have a simple chicken or turkey brown bread sandwich or chicken salad. Also tuna sandwich with brown bread is a good option.
Do not restrain from eating popcorn. Only make sure to have less amount of salt in them. It is a low sugar and low calorie snack.
You can choose non starchy vegetables like celery and spinach. Also chicken stock is good option. Boil any of your choice and add some salt or pepper.
Veggie snack can include carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, etc. They can be consumed as such or top them up with non fat yogurt and consume.
